Trans Day Of Remembrance 2023
November 20th, 2023
The Transgender Day of Remembrance is in memory of those who have passed due to anti-transgender violence and hate. Together, we will stand strong against transphobic acts of violence and speech
About Trans Day of Remembrance
Originally this annual event started in 1999, by Gwendolyn Ann Smith, who wanted to honor the memory of Rita Hester, who had passed the year before in a hate crime.
It’s important as members of LGBT+ community to step back and reflect on the struggles and losses of those in our community from hate. This is an event to share our grief, our stories, and to come together in love.
Historically, and today, transgender individuals have been a target of violence, and we want to honors those who passed on because of these senseless and cruel acts.
About the Event
In 2023 TDOR was hosted to provide the community space to come together and show support for the community. Speakers were pre arranged to talk about the event and their experience in the community. After scheduled speakers spoke, it was opened to the broader community to share.
